Blogging From the Mall

I came out to the local Apple store to get a case for the new iPhone since the one for the original model feels loose.

I get there, and am stopped at the door. I have to wait in the line even though I don’t want an iPhone. Bummer.

The line was maybe only 10 people, but I don’t know how fast it was moving, and it just didn’t seem worth it for a case. So instead of a nice leather case I got a cheap vinyl one from one of the mall’s “sidewalk vendors”. It’ll do for now.

Mission accomplished, I’m sitting with a cup of Go Juice and posting this via the WordPress iPhone app.

  1. This was a poor retail strategy by Apple. I get that the iPhone crowd is anxious and Apple wants good first weekend sales numbers. But for those of us who didn’t need to buy an iPhone, being told to stand in line for access to the store was quite off-putting. And browsing was out of the question; you better know why you’re there or give it up.

    I can’t help but feel that a line for the iPhone purchasers is a perfectly reasonable approach, and I don’t even mind if 80% of the store staff are serving that line, but there should have been one or two blue-shirts there to help the rest of us… especially those who had already bought an iPhone and where shopping for accessories, etc. after the initial purchase.
